NHL Game Summary - Calgary at Chicago

(Wednesday, November 12th)

Final Score: Calgary 6, Chicago 2

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Matthew Lombardi recorded his first career hat trick and also posted an assist, as the Calgary Flames beat the Chicago Blackhawks, 6-2, at the United Center.

Dean McAmmond scored two goals against his former team and Chris Clark added another tally for Calgary, which stopped its three-game losing streak. Jamie McLennan turned aside 31 of the 33 shots he faced in the victory.

Steve McCarthy and Brett McLean both scored for the Blackhawks, who have dropped three straight, including one in overtime. Michael Leighton started in goal for Chicago, but lasted only 28:59 after allowing five goals on 21 shots.

Lombardi opened the scoring at 8:10 of the first period when he picked up a rebound in front and scored his third goal of the campaign. The power-play tally was assisted by Chuck Kobasew and Jordan Leopold.

With 7:07 to go in the opening period, Lombardi helped give the Flames a two- goal cushion. He skated all the way down the ice through traffic, waited until the last second and fed across the goal mouth where Clark easily deposited his second goal of the season.

McLean, though, cut the Chicago deficit to 2-1 with just over a minute remaining in the first when he redirected a pass into the cage from the slot.

Three Flames goals within the first nine minutes of the second period put the game away.

First, McAmmond lit the lamp at 4:55. Then, 66 seconds later, Lombardi picked up a loose puck near the right faceoff dot and slid the disc through the pads of Leighton to put them ahead 4-1.

Just about three minutes later, at 8:59, Calgary pushed its lead to 5-1. Skating 5-on-4, McAmmond picked up the rebound off a blast from the point and lifted it over Leighton, who was then pulled from the game in favor of Craig Anderson.

McCarthy found the back of the net for Chicago at 10:06 of the middle period to bring the Blackhawks within 5-2.

Lombardi capped his huge night with a breakaway goal at 12:40 of the third.
