seconds apart in the first period to spark the Vancouver Canucks to a 4-1
victory over the Phoenix Coyotes at America West Arena.
Marek Malik, Magnus Arvedson and Todd Bertuzzi posted two assists apiece for
the Canucks, who extended their unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1). Brendan
Morrison and Markus Naslund also scored, while and Dan Cloutier made 23 saves
Ladislav Nagy scored for Phoenix, while Sean Burke stopped 27-of-31 shots. The
Coyotes are winless in their last seven contests (0-4-3).
The Canucks grabbed a 2-0 edge on a pair of quick goals near the midway point
of the first period.
Linden scored on a wrister from the left circle to give Vancouver a 1-0 lead
at 8:16 of the opening period. The Canucks have scored first in all 11 of its
games this season, giving them the second-longest streak to start an NHL
season. The Philadelphia Flyers scored first in 12 straight games to start the
Slegr tallied a power-play goal just 51 seconds later to give Vancouver a 2-0
edge. The Czech defenseman sent a weak wrister on goal and the puck somehow
slipped underneath Burke's left arm before heading into the net.
Nagy cut the lead to 2-1 with a goal at 1:05 of the second stanza. David
Tanabe wristed a shot from the left point and Nagy was just outside the crease
to knock in the rebound.
The Canucks restored the two-goal cushion when Morrison lit the lamp at 6:08
of the middle period. Bertuzzi charged at the net before sliding the puck to
Morrison, who sent a wrister past Burke from just below the right circle.
Vancouver's lead grew to 4-1 when Naslund scored on a wrist shot from the
right circle. The puck hit Burke in the pads and trickled into the net.
Vancouver leads the NHL with 38 goals scored...The Canucks are unbeaten in
their last seven meetings with Phoenix (5-0-2)...The Coyotes went 1-for-4 on
the power play, while Vancouver scored once on six opportunities with the man
