NHL Game Summary - Boston at Anaheim

(Sunday, October 19th)

Final Score: Boston 4, Anaheim 3 (OT)

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Sergei Samsonov scored with 52 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Boston Bruins past the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, 4-3, at the Pond.

Boston forced overtime when Mike Knuble tallied his second goal of the game with 4:25 left in the third period.

Brian Rolston also found the net for Boston, which rallied for three goals in the third period Saturday to defeat Los Angeles. Andrew Raycroft turned aside 26 shots for the Bruins, who improved to 3-0-1 in their last four games.

Steve Rucchin tallied a pair of goals and Vaclav Prospal chipped in a goal and an assist for the Mighty Ducks, who picked up their first point of the season (0-4-0-1). Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 26 saves for Anaheim.

On the game-winning goal, Jeff Jillson stole a clearing pass and fed a pass to Samsonov in the left corner. Samsonov then cut to the net and beat Giguere to the glove side for his second goal of the year.

The Bruins went to the power play with 4:44 left as Niclas Havelid was whistled for hooking. It took just 19 seconds for Knuble to tie the contest at 3-3, as he took a drop pass from Glen Murray and rifled a shot from the top of the right circle past Giguere.

Raycroft had kept it a one-goal game a few minutes earlier when he stoned Andy McDonald with the pads. McDonald broke in alone after taking a nice pass from Sergei Fedorov.

After a scoreless first period, the teams combined for five goals in the middle frame.

Rucchin opened the scoring at the two-minute mark on the power play, as he took a cross-ice pass from Joffrey Lupul and one-timed a shot from the right circle past Raycroft for his first tally of the year.

The Bruins evened the contest at 1-1 on Rolston's fourth goal of the season at 4:09, but the Mighty Ducks answered just 15 seconds later as Prospal beat Raycroft with a wrister from the right circle for his first goal of the campaign.

Rucchin increased the advantage to 3-1 at 8:34. Fedorov's initial shot caromed off the post, but Rucchin was there to pick up the puck and fire a shot past Raycroft.

Boston cut the deficit to 3-2 with 9:29 remaining in the frame, as Knuble skated in alone on Giguere, deked to the backhand and slid the puck past the netminder for his second tally of the campaign.
