(Saturday, October 18th)
Final Score: Buffalo 2, Calgary 0
Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Mika Noronen made 20 saves for the shutout as
the Buffalo Sabres blanked the Calgary Flames, 2-0, at the Saddledome.
Miroslav Satan and Ales Kotalik scored for the Sabres, who have won two of
Roman Turek made 16 saves for the Flames, who were denied a third straight
Noronen was hardly tested, stopping all eight shots he faced in the first
period, six in the second and six in the third en route to his second career
Kotalik's second goal of the season at 1:33 of the first period would be all
the scoring Buffalo would need. Chris Drury, who had a disappointing 2002-03
season with Calgary and was traded to the Sabres during the off-season, picked
up a loose puck behind the net and fed it to Kotalik, who beat Turek with a
low shot on the glove side to make it a 1-0 contest.
Satan made it 2-0 when he scored on the power play with just six-tenths of
second remaining in the second period. He retrieved the puck from a scramble
in front of the net and put it past a sprawled Turek.
An apparent goal by Chuck Kobasew early in the game was disallowed for illegal
contact with the goaltender.
The Sabres were 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Flames went 0-for-4 with
the extra skater...Buffalo is 1-1 so far on its six-game road trip...The
Sabres lost last season's lone meeting with Calgary. Buffalo snapped a two-
game losing streak at Calgary.
