(Tuesday, December 20th)
Final Score: NY Rangers 4, New Jersey 1
Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Marian Gaborik scored twice and added an assist
as the New York Rangers took a 4-1 win over the New Jersey Devils at
Prudential Center.
Artem Anisimov had a goal and an assist and Carl Hagelin also lit the lamp for
the Rangers, went 2-1-0 on their three-game road trip. Henrik Lundqvist turned
aside 30 shots in the win.
"These are important points to take, division rivals on the road," said
Gaborik. "We have some big games coming up before the break and we just have
to carry it over."
Travis Zajac scored the lone goal for the Devils, who came into the game with
a season-high four-game winning streak. Martin Brodeur stopped 17-of-20 shots
in the loss.
"I thought our effort was good, we played hard and had a good start," said New
Jersey forward Zach Parise. "It wasn't a question of effort cause we were
ready, just came out on the other end of the scoresheet tonight."
New Jersey scored the first goal of the game when a shot from the left point
saw two different Devils have a chance at the rebound with Zajac getting it in
for his first goal of the season with 4:09 left in the frame.
Late in the second, the Rangers tied the game on Anisimov's goal, as Derek
Stepan brought the puck into the zone down the right wing and sent a blind
centering pass that saw Anisimov put the puck in with 2:32 to play.
The Rangers took their first lead of the game 4:45 into the third when
Anisimov sent a backhand on net from the right circle that Brodeur stopped,
but it got behind him and Gaborik slammed it in.
Skating shorthanded, New York went on a 2-on-1 break the other way that saw
Hagelin opt to shoot and bury the puck for a 3-1 lead with 5:18 to play.
Gaborik's 19th of the year came with the net empty and just seconds showing on
the clock.
