Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - T.J. Oshie and Andy McDonald scored in the
shootout, as the St. Louis Blues took down the Nashville Predators, 3-2.
Chris Stewart and Vladimir Sobotka lit the lamp in regulation for the Blues,
who snapped a four-game skid against Nashville.
Jaroslav Halak made 25 saves for St. Louis, which sits four points behind the
Red Wings in the Central Division. Detroit had its NHL record 23-game home
winning streak stopped in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Canucks on Thursday.
Roman Josi and Colin Wilson scored for the Predators, who had a two-game
winning streak snapped. Pekka Rinne stopped 22-of-24 shots.
The Blues drew first blood at the 4:13 mark of the first period. Kris
Russell's blast from the left point set up a rebound in front. Former Predator
Jason Arnott's backhander hit off Stewart's skate and went into the net.
Josi tied the game at the 2:53 mark of the middle stanza. Brandon Yip led a 2-
on-1 rush down the right wing and made a cross-ice pass to Josi, whose snap
shot beat Halak.
"I saw an opening, I jumped in and Yip made a great pass," recalled Josi.
Nashville took a 2-1 lead at the 12:52 mark. Wilson gathered a loose puck in
front of the net and his backhander got past Halak.
Sobotka made it a tie game again less than a minute later. After the Predators
turned the puck over in their own zone, Sobotka put a backhander past Rinne
from the slot.
Halak stopped 10 shots in the third frame, while Rinne made three saves.
Following a scoreless overtime period, Oshie and McDonald used the backhand to
beat Rinne in the shootout. Halak stopped both of Nashville's shooters.
The Blues, who snapped a two-game skid, started a six-game road trip on
Thursday...The Predators are on an 8-0-2 run at home....Nashville's Jordin
Tootoo had an assist. He has 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in 37 career
games against St. Louis...Each team went 0-for-1 on the power play.
