NHL Game Summary - Pittsburgh at Carolina

(Saturday, December 3rd)

Final Score: Pittsburgh 3, Carolina 2

Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - Craig Adams recorded a goal and an assist as the Pittsburgh Penguins edged the Carolina Hurricanes, 3-2.

Arron Asham and Pascal Dupuis also tallied for the Penguins, who have won four of their past five games.

Brent Johnson stopped 30-of-32 shots in the win.

Johnson stood tall in net to preserve the win for Pittsburgh down the stretch as the Hurricanes could not capitalize on a three-man advantage in the final minutes.

"You don't see 6-on-3s that often," Johnson said. "Just an excellent effort from our guys."

"Give Pitt credit, they did a good job of shotblocking," Carolina head coach Kirk Muller said.

Jamie McBain netted both goals for Carolina, which has lost three consecutive games since Muller took over as head coach on Monday. The Hurricanes have lost six in a row overall.

Brian Boucher made 37 saves in the loss.

Sidney Crosby made a nice backhanded pass to Adams, who snapped it home from a sharp angle left of the net to give the Penguins the 1-0 lead 8:34 into the second period.

McBain tied it with a slap shot from the left point after Joni Pitkanen found him with a cross-ice feed late in the second period.

Adams set up Asham 8:33 into the final period for the go-ahead goal. Asham received the feed from the left point, maneuvered into the high-slot, and fired his slap shot past Boucher.

Dupuis then made it a two-goal game just 1:27 later. Evgeni Malkin put a backhander on net, and Dupuis was there to put home the rebound.

McBain scored on a power play to make it a one-goal game with 7:31 left.

Game Notes

Malkin's assist was his 15th of the season, while Crosby's helper was his 10th of the year...The Penguins put just eight shots on goal in the opening period, but put 32 shots on net in the final two periods.
