Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - Craig Adams recorded a goal and an assist as
the Pittsburgh Penguins edged the Carolina Hurricanes, 3-2.
Arron Asham and Pascal Dupuis also tallied for the Penguins, who have won four
of their past five games.
Brent Johnson stopped 30-of-32 shots in the win.
Johnson stood tall in net to preserve the win for Pittsburgh down the stretch
as the Hurricanes could not capitalize on a three-man advantage in the final
"You don't see 6-on-3s that often," Johnson said. "Just an excellent effort
from our guys."
"Give Pitt credit, they did a good job of shotblocking," Carolina head coach
Kirk Muller said.
Jamie McBain netted both goals for Carolina, which has lost three consecutive
games since Muller took over as head coach on Monday. The Hurricanes have lost
six in a row overall.
Brian Boucher made 37 saves in the loss.
Sidney Crosby made a nice backhanded pass to Adams, who snapped it home from a
sharp angle left of the net to give the Penguins the 1-0 lead 8:34 into the
McBain tied it with a slap shot from the left point after Joni Pitkanen found
him with a cross-ice feed late in the second period.
Adams set up Asham 8:33 into the final period for the go-ahead goal. Asham
received the feed from the left point, maneuvered into the high-slot, and
fired his slap shot past Boucher.
Dupuis then made it a two-goal game just 1:27 later. Evgeni Malkin put a
backhander on net, and Dupuis was there to put home the rebound.
McBain scored on a power play to make it a one-goal game with 7:31 left.
Malkin's assist was his 15th of the season, while Crosby's helper was his 10th
of the year...The Penguins put just eight shots on goal in the opening period,
but put 32 shots on net in the final two periods.
