NHL Game Summary - San Jose at St. Louis
(Sunday, February 12th)
Final Score: St. Louis 3, San Jose 0
St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Jaroslav Halak made 25 saves to record his
sixth shutout of the season and 22nd of his career as the St. Louis Blues kept
rolling at home with a 3-0 win over the San Jose Sharks at Scottrade Center.
Alex Pietrangelo finished with two goals and an assist and David Perron also
scored for the Blues, who have won four straight and extended their franchise-
record home points streak to 19 games (16-0-3).
Antti Niemi gave up a pair of goals on 27 shots in defeat for the Sharks, who
have lost three of their last four contests.
Skating 5-on-3, St. Louis opened the scoring at 15:03 of the opening period
when Pietrangelo fired a shot from the point that got through traffic in front
and past a screened Niemi.
"It took a minute and 30 seconds to find the back of the net, but that's what
two minutes are for," Pietrangelo said. "We had a lot of chances on those 5-
on-3s, so it was just a matter of time before we got one."
The Blues added another 5-on-3 goal at 17:16 of the second period. Pietrangelo
fired a shot from the left circle that hit bodies in front before Perron got a
stick on it and batted it in behind Niemi for a 2-0 Blues advantage.
Halak made seven saves in the final stanza and Pietrangelo added an empty-
netter with six seconds to play in regulation to secure the shutout.
"I liked our start," Sharks head coach Todd McLellan said. "We played the
right kind of game at least for the first 10 minutes until we took the three
penalties. After that, they got a little momentum back and started to play
their game."
