NHL Game Summary - Tampa Bay at Florida|
(Friday, November 25th)
Final Score: Tampa Bay 2, Florida 1 (OT)
Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Steven Stamkos scored 2:29 into overtime on the
power play to give Tampa Bay a 2-1 win over Florida in the opener of a home-
and-home Southeastern Division battle.
Dmitry Kulikov was sent to the box for interference 48 seconds in and the
Lightning power play went to work.
From the high slot, Martin St. Louis held the puck before sliding it over to
the left circle where Stamkos one-timed it over the glove of Jose Theodore.
"It feels great to know the game is over and get the two points," said
Stamkos. "It was a real tight, defensive game our there. We're lucky to come
out of here with a win."
Vinny Lecavalier scored the other goal for the Lightning, who had dropped four
of five coming in. Mathieu Garon stopped 23 shots.
Tomas Fleischmann scored the lone goal while Theodore made 29 saves for the
Panthers, who had a three-game winning streak stopped.
"We didn't play our best game tonight," said Fleischmann. "We looked tired out
there, but we should have found a way to win it in the third period."
These two squads will meet in Tampa Bay on Saturday.
After a scoreless opening period, the Panthers took a 1-0 lead with a 2-on-2
play that saw Stephen Weiss send a pass from the left wing over to the right
and Fleischmann wrist it home at the 12:38 mark.
However, Tampa tied the game 8:59 into the third when Lecavalier fired a shot
on net from the slot that Theodore stopped, but he followed it up and his
second whack at the puck went in.
Both side have won twice in the season series. However, Florida has gained six
points as both of Tampa's wins have come after regulation...Florida was 0-
for-4 on the power play while Tampa went 1-for-2.
