NHL Game Summary - Buffalo at Carolina
(Friday, November 18th)
Final Score: Buffalo 1, Carolina 0
Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - Jhonas Enroth rebounded from a subpar
performance in his last outing to backstop the Buffalo Sabres to a 1-0 win
over the Carolina Hurricanes at the RBC Center.
Enroth recorded 14 of his 34 saves in the third period Friday night for
Buffalo, which has won six of its last eight games. The diminutive Swede, who
notched his second career shutout, was pulled Wednesday against New Jersey
after surrendering five goals on 19 shots.
Brian Boucher made 19 saves for the Hurricanes, who were blanked for the
second straight game. Carolina has lost three in a row and seven of eight
overall.
"This was a really good effort tonight. This is something to build off of,"
Boucher said. "If we play like that, I think we're going to win more games
than we lose."
The game's lone tally belonged to Buffalo captain Jason Pominville and it came
on a power play in the first period. Brad Boyes moved the puck to Thomas Vanek
behind the Carolina net. Vanek quickly threw the puck out front and it
deflected on goal. Boucher made the first save, but Pominville crashed the
crease and buried the rebound at 13:04.
Carolina had a 12-4 shot advantage in the second period, but couldn't solve
Enroth.
Buffalo killed a penalty with under five minutes to go in the third period to
preserve the win.
