(Saturday, October 29th)

Final Score: San Jose 3, NY Islanders 2 (OT)

Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Brent Burns scored the game-winning goal at 1:07 of the overtime period, sending the San Jose Sharks to a 3-2 win over the New York Islanders from Nassau Coliseum.

After Travis Hamonic was called for a delay of game penalty for lifting the puck over the glass, the Sharks went right to work with the 4-on-3 power play and Burns accepted a pass from Joe Pavelski at the right point and blasted one past DiPietro for the game winner, sending the Sharks to their fifth straight win.

"I think we were a little tired, probably more mental than physical, but it's a sign of a good team to survive and come out with two points," Burns said.

Pavelski and Logan Couture netted the other goals for San Jose, which got 35 saves from Thomas Greiss.

John Tavares and Michael Grabner netted power-play goals for the Isles, while Rick DiPietro stopped 27-of-30 shots fired his way. New York has lost five in a row.

The Sharks jumped out the an early lead thanks to a a cross checking penalty to Steve Staios just 10 seconds into the game. Seven seconds later, the Sharks connected with the power play when Dan Boyle blasted a shot from the right point that DiPietro stopped, but he left a huge rebound and Pavelski was on the doorstep to slide it into the empty net for a 1-0 lead.

The Islanders tied the game at the 3:15 mark of the second stanza after Jason Demers was called for a hooking penalty. With the power play, Mark Streit fired a slap shot from the right point that was stopped by Greiss, but the rebound found its way to Tavares, who ripped it into the net.

"I think we did a lot of good things tonight and the team has come a long way," Tavares said. "We just need to play with a little more desperation."

The Islanders took a 2-1 lead at 11:28 of the second stanza with another power-play tally. Kyle Okposo streaked up the right wing and fired a shot on goal that was kicked out by Greiss, but Grabner was there to poke home the rebound.

But the lead was short-lived as San Jose came right back to knot it at two at 13:19 of the third when Couture picked up a loose puck in the slot off of a shot from Burns and snapped it glove side past DiPietro.
