NHL Game Summary - Boston at Carolina
(Saturday, January 14th)
Final Score: Carolina 4, Boston 2
Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - Jay Harrison and Eric Staal scored 28 seconds
apart late in regulation, part of a three-goal third period which sent
Carolina past Boston, 4-2, at RBC Center.
Patrick Dwyer and Justin Faulk also tallied for the Hurricanes, who have won
two in a row.
Cam Ward made 33 saves in the comeback victory.
"Tampa was one of our better games all year, and we felt pretty good tonight,"
Faulk said when referencing a 5-2 win over the Lightning on Thursday.
Patrice Bergeron and Milan Lucic provided the offense for the Bruins, whose
two-game win streak came to an end.
Tim Thomas allowed three goals on just 20 shots in defeat.
Faulk knotted the game, 2-2, with 6:02 left before the end of regulation by
collecting a pass from Tim Brent at the right point near the benches and
floating a shot under the crossbar.
Harrison then put the hosts ahead at 18:30 when his offering from the left
point got through traffic and past Thomas.
Staal added an insurance tally into the empty net on Carolina's next turn up
the ice after Thomas was pulled.
"It was basically all tips, skates and knuckling pucks," said Thomas, talking
about the luck that came with Carolina's goals. "They did the right things.
You throw it at the net with traffic and see what happens. Sometimes you win
games like that."
Following a scoreless first period, each team tallied in the second. Bergeron
put the Bruins up at 6:13, then Dwyer countered at 10:30.
Lucic netted the lead goal at 1:21 of the third, picking up a blocked David
Krejci shot and lifting his chance high and inside the left post from the
right circle.
