NHL Game Summary - Boston at Columbus

(Tuesday, March 15th)

Final Score: Boston 3, Columbus 2 (SO)

Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Tyler Seguin posted the lone goal in the shootout as Boston edged Columbus, 3-2, at Nationwide Arena.

David Krejci and Rich Peverley tallied in regulation for the Bruins, who stemmed a five-game slide and moved four points ahead of the Canadiens in the Northeast Division. The Habs lost at home to Washington earlier Tuesday.

Tuukka Rask stopped 34 shots for the win.

"This was one of his biggest and best games of the year," Bruins head coach Claude Julien said of Rask. "He was very poised and I thought he did a great job in the shootout."

Grant Clitsome and Scottie Upshall lit the lamp for the Blue Jackets, who have dropped eight of their last nine games. Steve Mason took the loss despite 27 saves.

Clitsome put the Jackets on the board with a blistering shot from the point with 53 seconds left in the first.

Chara's shot from the point slid through traffic and between Mason's pads thanks to a deflection from Krejci with 7:40 to play in the second.

Upshall provided Columbus with a 2-1 advantage when he followed up a rebound by hitting the open net from the slot with 7:40 left in regulation but Peverley soloed while shorthanded to even the game just over two minutes later.

"It was a little bit of a setback, obviously because we're on a high after the goal," Mason said of the tide turning so quickly in the third period. "But they got one back very quick, and for the rest of the game we kinda sat back."

After a scoreless overtime which saw Boston rip five shots at Mason and Columbus respond with three tries at Rask, Seguin ended the first round of the shootout with a successful wrister.

Jackets defenseman Fedor Tyutin and Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron each failed in their respective turns, before Rask was able to force Upshall into shooting his backhand try over the net to end the game.
