NHL Game Summary - Chicago at Florida

(Tuesday, March 8th)

Final Score: Florida 3, Chicago 2

Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Tomas Vokoun made three first period goals stand up as he turned away 37 shots to help Florida hang on for a 3-2 win over Chicago at BankAtlantic Center.

David Booth recorded a goal and an assist while Clay Wilson and Marty Reasoner also tallied for the Panthers, who ended a five-game slide.

Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa potted goals for the Blackhawks, who were halted in an attempt to match a club record with their ninth straight win.

Corey Crawford yielded three goals on eight shots in the first period and was relieved by Marty Turco, who denied the seven shots he encountered.

"They're a great team and they've been on a roll. We came out with a lot of energy and then head on for dear life," Reasoner said about the victory. "It's a good experience for our guys to play in meaningful games late in the year."

Florida got on the board just over four minutes into the game when Booth picked up the rebound of a Michal Repik left point drive and rammed it past Crawford from the inside of the left circle.

Wilson's shot from the slot made it through traffic and past Crawford through the five-hole to give the hosts a 2-0 edge almost halfway through the session. Reasoner then roofed a shot from between the circles past Crawford high to the glove side with 6.9 ticks remaining to make it 3-0.

"It was our worst period of the season and we knew it when we came in the dressing room," Hossa said. "We got a good lesson about having to play all 60 minutes. We had a lot of chances to win the game but because we didn't start well, we weren't able to get it done."

Turco replaced Crawford at the start of the second period and the change did what it was intended to in sparking the Blackhawks back into the game.

The visitors got on the board 11 minutes into the middle session when Brian Campbell took a pass at the left circle and swooped behind the net before dishing to the right doorstep for Kane, who one-timed it past Vokoun.

Chicago clawed to within one, less than three minutes later when Bolland passed from the end line to the left circle from where Hossa blistered a one- timer past Vokoun.

Vokoun stood tall in the final period stopping all 14 shots he faced to earn his 12th career win against Chicago.
