NHL Game Summary - Phoenix at Chicago

(Sunday, February 27th)

Final Score: Chicago 4, Phoenix 3 (SO)

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Jonathan Toews notched the lone goal in the shootout as Chicago edged Phoenix, 4-3, at United Center.

Toews tallied twice in regulation for the Blackhawks, who won their fourth straight game and fifth in six. Marian Hossa also lit the lamp for Chicago, which has won both its contests since head coach Joel Quenneville returned from a hospital stay due to internal bleeding.

Corey Crawford stopped 26-of-29 shots in 65 minutes of play, then all three Phoenix shooters, for the victory.

"We've had a lot of similar games," Toews said. "You've got to be confident going into the third period. That's kind of what we told ourselves."

Adrian Aucoin, Keith Yandle and Martin Hanzal hit the net for the Coyotes, losers of three in a row after winning eight straight.

Ilya Bryzgalov played well in defeat, making 38 saves.

Toews got the Blackhawks on the board less than three minutes in, then Brent Seabrook's blast from the right point during a 5-on-3 advantage apparently ticked off Toews and made it 2-0 for Chicago at 16:55 of the opening period.

Aucoin struck for the Coyotes at 2:13 of the second, but Hossa popped a loose puck over Bryzgalov from in close at 8:14 for a power-play score and 3-1 edge.

Phoenix got back within a goal at 11:11 on the advantage when Yandle tallied on a long shot, then tied the game on another power play when Hanzal snuck a shot by Crawford with 2:59 left.

Chicago had a potential go-ahead goal from a scramble in the crease with 7 1/2 minutes remaining in regulation negated due to an early whistle.

"It was tough being down in that game and being able to battle back was huge," Yandle said. "(Bryzgalov) shut the door and we were able to find some goals on the power play. I think it was a big moral victory for us even coming back and tying it."
