NHL Game Summary - Dallas at Colorado

(Saturday, November 6th)

Final Score: Colorado 5, Dallas 0

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Peter Budaj stopped 31 shots for his first shutout of the season while Kevin Porter scored twice to help Colorado take a 5-0 win over Dallas at Pepsi Center.

Philippe Dupuis had a goal and two assists while Brandon Yip and Milan Hejduk each added a goal and a helper for the Avalanche, who have won three of their last four games.

"Dallas is a great team, but tonight we just outplayed them," said Budaj. "We wanted to play with our system, not theirs. Our penalty killing was great tonight and our defense forced them to shoot from bad angles."

Andrew Raycroft was tagged for all five goals on 45 shots for the Stars, who had a three-game winning streak snapped.

"They played a strong game," said Dallas defenseman Nicklas Grossman. "We have to find a way to execute better. Tonight it was frustrating, especially knowing that we can score goals. That's the way it is in this league, there are no easy games."

The Avs scored the only goal they needed halfway through the first period, as Porter grabbed the puck at the left side and slipped a backhander past Raycroft.

Just under five minutes into the second, Colorado took a 2-0 lead when Hejduk backhanded the puck into the net from the slot during a scrum in front.

Dupuis scored the first goal of his NHL career while shorthanded at the 13:05 mark of the second to give Colorado a 3-0 edge.

Porter netted a backhander 5:39 into the third while Yip tipped in Matt Duchene's shot 31 seconds later for a 5-0 advantage.
