NHL Game Summary - Nashville at Detroit

(Saturday, October 30th)

Final Score: Detroit 5, Nashville 2

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Pavel Datsyuk had two goals and an assist as the Detroit Red Wings downed the Nashville Predators, 5-2, at Joe Louis Arena.

Patrick Eaves, Brad Stuart and Tomas Holmstrom each had a goal for the Red Wings, who have won four of their last five. Chris Osgood made 23 saves in the win.

"It was a good bounce-back game for him," said Detroit head coach Mike Babcock about Osgood. "He played well in the second period and held us in there. It's important that he plays real well for us when he gets his chance to start and he did that tonight."

Kevin Kline and Joel Ward each lit the lamp for the Predators, who have dropped their past two. Pekka Rinne was tagged for all five goals on 28 shots in the loss.

"We came out strong and then we take penalties and give them the momentum," said Kline. "Each period we started came out strong and then we just fell behind the eight-ball."

At the 12:11 mark of the first period the Red Wings grabbed a 1-0 lead on Datsyuk's snap shot for his fifth goal of the season.

Stuart's tip-in of a Johan Franzen offering gave Detroit a 2-0 advantage with 1:36 left in the opening frame.

Nashville got one back 7:49 into the second as Ward made it a 2-1 game with his second goal of the season, but Datsyuk's second goal of the game with 1:18 left in the second gave Detroit a 3-1 edge heading into the third.

Holmstrom scored a power-play goal off a tip-in of a Nicklas Lidstrom shot at the 4:18 mark of the third for a 4-1 advantage.

Eaves scored on a wrister a bit over two minutes later to give Detroit a four- goal edge.

Kline's blast from the point got past Osgood near the midway mark of the frame to make it a 5-2 contest.
