NHL Game Summary - Pittsburgh at Carolina

(Saturday, October 30th)

Final Score: Pittsburgh 3, Carolina 0

Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - Pascal Dupuis scored twice while Brent Johnson stopped 33 shots, helping the struggling Pittsburgh Penguins to a 3-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Johnson recorded his first shutout of the season for the Penguins, who had lost their last three and opened a four-game road trip. Maxime Talbot also scored, while Sidney Crosby added two assists.

Cam Ward allowed all three goals on 31 shots for the Hurricanes, who were coming off Friday's win over the Rangers in New York.

Carolina lost the game in part because it went 0-for-7 on the power play.

Dupuis gave the Penguins the lead only 4:18 into the game. Skating in the neutral zone, he picked up a puck that had caromed off a teammate's stick and Carolina defenseman Jamie McBain. Dupuis advanced up the left side of the ice before fading toward the middle and putting a backhander past Ward.

"We were all over them for about two or three solid minutes in their end, and getting a lot of chances, and then I guess [we had] a couple bad breakdowns early in the game that really hurt us," said Hurricanes rookie forward Jeff Skinner.

Talbot finished off a 2-on-1 with a backhand shot 2:15 into the middle period, and Dupuis netted his second of the game a little more than eight minutes into the third.

"I think we've got to calm down a little bit and maybe pay a little more attention to our zone," said Carolina defenseman Tim Gleason. "Give us a better opportunity to break the puck out easier and eliminate the odd-man rushes."

Johnson made 16 saves in the second period before making 11 in the third to secure the win.
