NHL Game Summary - Calgary at Nashville
(Tuesday, February 1st)
Final Score: Calgary 3, Nashville 2 (SO)
Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Rene Bourque scored the lone goal of the
shootout as the Calgary Flames took a 3-2 win over the Nashville Predators at
Bridgestone Arena.
Bourque was the first shooter and deked to the forehand before slipping the
puck past Pekka Rinne.
Miikka Kiprusoff then made stops on Martin Erat and Cody Franson before David
Legwand snapped a backhander over the net to secure Calgary's win.
Matt Stajan and Cory Sarich scored for the Flames, who are on a season-
high five-game winning streak.
Kiprusoff stopped 25 shots to help Calgary claim its sixth straight victory in
Nashville.
Erat and Patric Hornqvist lit the lamp for the Predators, who have dropped
their last three games. Rinne made 26 stops.
"I think you look at this as two desperate teams going at it," said Nashville
head coach Barry Trotz. "We are both evenly matched and both needing two
points. It was a well-played game, we were just on the other end of it."
Nashville got on the board after a turnover in the Calgary end. Sergei
Kostitsyn passed from the right circle to the front, where the puck hit Erat's
skate and went in at 7:43.
Rinne stopped all eight shots in the first frame and turned aside six in the
second. Kiprusoff stopped all six shots he faced in the middle stanza to keep
it a one-goal game.
Calgary pulled even just 2:57 into the third, when Stajan's slap shot from the
top of the left circle beat Rinne for his fourth goal of the season.
The Predators got the score back 2 1/2 minutes later while on the power play,
as Hornqvist's shot from the slot beat Kiprusoff.
However, Calgary tied the game with 10:56 to play in regulation. Alex Tanguay
passed from the deep right boards to the right circle, where Sarich one-timed
it past Rinne.
