NHL Game Summary - San Jose at Edmonton

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Joe Pavelski had a goal and two assists as the San Jose Sharks dominated the Edmonton Oilers, 6-1, at Rexall Place.

Dany Heatley had a goal and an assist while Joe Thornton added three helpers for the Sharks, who have won their past two. Antero Niittymaki stopped 21 shots in the win.

"We feel confident with how we're playing right now," said Thornton. "We came out with a good win against Colorado and we want to keep this momentum going as long as we can. The road trip's not done but we feel we can play with anybody right now."

Jordan Eberle had the lone goal for the Oilers, who have dropped their past four games. Nikolai Khabibulin was tagged for six goals on 34 shots in the loss.

"What happened is that they came to play and we didn't," said Oilers head coach Tom Renney. "You know, we're a young team and are still searching for those right combinations. It'll happen, it's just going to take time."

Eberle's shorthanded goal 1:22 in got Edmonton started out on the right note, but San Jose answered with 3:26 left in the period as Heatley tipped in a Pavelski offering for a power-play goal.

Logan Couture gave San Jose the lead with 7:14 left in the second on a backhander and Pavelski made it a 3-1 game with 1:09 left in the middle stanza.

Ryane Clowe scored on a wrister 4:29 into the third and Dan Boyle made it a 5-1 game 20 seconds later with a power-play tally.

John McCarthy's goal with 5:15 to play capped the scoring in the contest.

Game Notes

San Jose plays in Calgary to wrap up the three-game trip on Sunday...Edmonton hits the road for the next three games starting Tuesday in Calgary...The Sharks took three of four from Edmonton last season...San Jose scored on three of its five power plays while Edmonton failed on all five of its chances.
