NHL Game Summary - Carolina at Vancouver
(Sunday, October 17th)
Final Score: Vancouver 5, Carolina 1
Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Mason Raymond had two goals and an assist as
the Vancouver Canucks dominated the Carolina Hurricanes, 5-1, at Rogers Arena.
Mikael Samuelsson had a goal and two assists while Cory Schneider stopped 32
shots for the Canucks, who snapped a two-game slide.
"A lot of shots were from the outside. They only had a handful of real good
opportunities. I thought we played well as a unit," Schneider said.
Patrick O'Sullivan scored the lone goal while Cam Ward was tagged for all five
goals on 28 shots for the Hurricanes, who have dropped their past two games.
It was all Vancouver in the first period as the team scored twice in the first
10 minutes.
At the 5:37 mark, Andrew Alberts put the puck into the net when he got his
second shot past Ward. Four minutes later, Jeff Tambellini backhanded a pass
from the left side to the inside right circle where Raymond fired it home.
Halfway through the second period, the Canucks took a 3-0 lead. A turnaround
pass from the left side by Tanner Glass went across the goalmouth to the right
side where Samuelsson slammed it home.
O'Sullivan got Carolina on the board with 1:47 left in the second as his first
goal of the season made it a 3-1 game.
Raymond notched his second goal of the game 6:25 into the third when he jammed
it in from the right side for a 4-1 lead.
Ryan Kesler's one-timer at the right circle beat Ward over the glove for a
power-play tally with 5:50 to play to cap the scoring in the game.
"It wasn't really a good game for us at all," said Carolina head coach Paul
Maurice. "We came out flat, were outworked in both ends of the ice and weren't
able to get anything going."
