NHL Game Summary - Detroit at St. Louis

(Saturday, November 28th)

Final Score: Detroit 4, St. Louis 3 (SO)

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Todd Bertuzzi's goal in the fourth round of the shootout helped the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Blues at Scottrade Center.

In the fourth round, after T.J. Oshie was stopped, Bertuzzi skated in on net and lifted a backhander past Chris Mason for the win.

Henrik Zetterberg had a goal and an assist while Kris Draper and Tomas Holmstrom each lit the lamp for the Red Wings, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Jimmy Howard made 32 saves in the win.

"Overall we found a way to do it. Obviously, things haven't gone well for us here of late. We've played well but we couldn't score, so it was nice to get that tonight."

David Backes had a goal and an assist while Roman Polak and Brad Boyes also lit the lamp for the Blues, who had won four of five coming into the game. Mason made 33 saves in the loss.

With the score tied in the third, St. Louis took a 3-2 lead as David Perron padded the puck from the right boards to the front of the net for Boyes, who had an easy tap-in for his sixth goal of the season at the 8:32 mark of the frame.

Detroit pulled Howard for the extra attacker and the move paid off, as the team had several chances on Mason and finally got the puck into the net. Zetterberg threw it on net from the right side, and it hit off a St. Louis player in front before sneaking in with just 56.7 seconds left in regulation.

"He threw it up high in front of the net, and it went off something, and all of the sudden I saw hands in the air," Mason said. "So, that's the way it goes, that's what the team does: they throw it toward the net, they have people there and are rewarded."

St. Louis struck first at the 13:24 mark of the opening period. Perron brought the puck into the Detroit end and cranked a shot on the fly that Backes redirected past Howard.

Polak's wrist shot with 2:38 to play in the first beat Howard for his second goal of the year and a 2-0 lead.

Skating on the power play, Detroit finally put the puck into the net after going 175 minutes and 57 seconds without lighting the net. Pavel Datsyuk fired a pass from the left circle to the right, where Zetterberg sent it back to the front for Holmstrom, who shoveled it home at the 2:35 mark of the second.

The Red Wings tied the game 2:27 into the third as Darren Helm snapped a turnaround pass from the low left circle to the front of the net for Draper, who knocked it home for his fourth goal of the season.
