St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - Antti Miettinen registered a pair of goals as
Minnesota downed Detroit, 5-2, at Xcel Energy Center.
Martin Havlat, Andrew Ebbett and Guillaume Latendresse also scored for the
Wild, who have won two in a row after losing four straight.
Josh Harding made 26 stops to post his fourth win of the season and first
since January 9.
"We played very good for the whole game, even considering they played
last night and were hungry," Havlat admitted. "At the end of the game we just
had more energy than them."
Pavel Datsyuk lit the lamp twice for the Red Wings, who suffered their third
straight defeat and sixth in seven. Chris Osgood yielded five goals on 25
shots for the loss.
Minnesota picked up the first power play of the game and capitalized on
Miettinen's wrister 2:54 into the contest, but Datsyuk countered at even
strength less than five minutes in.
Andrew Brunette fed Miettinen for a successful shot from along the goal line
with 3:13 left in the period for a 2-1 Wild edge, but Datsyuk responded 27
seconds later on a tip in.
Greg Zanon then slammed a shot from the point which caromed off Ebbett's knee
and in 23 seconds after the Wings forged a tie, and the home team led 3-2
The Wild defense clamped down with a lead, allowing few Detroit scoring
chances. Harding needed to make just four saves in the second period to keep
the Wings at bay.
Latendresse smoked a shot past Osgood to put the Wild ahead 4-2 with 3:42
