NHL Game Summary - St. Louis at Calgary|
(Monday, January 25th)
Final Score: St. Louis 2, Calgary 0
Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Ty Conklin turned aside all 34 shots he faced
to record his third shutout of the season, as the St. Louis Blues blanked the
spiraling Calgary Flames, 2-0, at the Pengrowth Saddledome.
"You win hockey games on the road when your goaltender performs like that, he
was solid," said St. Louis head coach Davis Payne.
Patrik Berglund and David Perron scored for the Blues, who snapped a two-game
losing streak and won for the sixth time in their last nine tries.
Flames goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 27 shots in a losing cause.
Calgary lately has been more of a wet match than an inferno, losing seven
straight and nine of 10 overall. The slump comes on the heels of a season-
high five-game winning streak.
"We certainly had opportunities here tonight and it's just not happening for
us around the net," said Calgary head coach Brent Sutter.
Berglund broke a scoreless tie with 1:18 remaining in the middle stanza. The
second-year center carried the puck to the middle of the left circle before
firing a low shot that pinballed behind a frustrated Kiprusoff.
Perron was at the left side of the enemy cage, took a cross-crease pass from
Andy McDonald and roofed the puck over the Calgary netminder to make it 2-0
with 8:39 left in the third period.
Conklin has 13 career shutouts...The Flames have scored just nine goals during
their seven-game skid...Calgary is 0-5-1 in its last six home games...The
Blues won the season series, 3-0-1...Both clubs are in action Wednesday. St.
Louis visits Vancouver, while Calgary travels to Dallas.
