St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - Mikko Koivu scored two goals to help the
Minnesota Wild defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets, 4-2, at Xcel Energy Center.
Eric Belanger and Robbie Earl also tallied for the Wild, who snapped a four-
game winless streak.
Minnesota goaltender Niklas Backstrom was in line for his 19th career shutout
before yielding two goals in the final 22 seconds of regulation. He finished
with 22 saves.
"Every point is very important. It doesn't matter when it comes, it's always
fun to win," said Koivu.
Rick Nash and Antoine Vermette scored for the Blue Jackets, who have dropped
five of seven. Steve Mason stopped 24 shots in a losing effort.
"Obviously, we set ourselves back early in the game and we find ourselves
having to fight back for the rest of it," said Mason. "That's not the way we
want to start hockey games."
Koivu staked Minnesota to a 2-0 lead, scoring at the 3:41 mark of the first
period and 1:26 into the middle stanza. Belanger lit the lamp three minutes
later to make it 3-0.
The Wild led by four goals when Earl fired a shot past Mason with 1:08
