NHL Game Summary - Anaheim at San Jose

(Thursday, January 21st)

Final Score: San Jose 3, Anaheim 1

San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Patrick Marleau had a goal and two assists to pace San Jose to its fourth straight win, 3-1 over the Anaheim Ducks.

Rob Blake and Marc-Edouard Vlasic also scored, while Joe Thornton had a pair of assists for the Sharks, who beat the Ducks for a sixth straight time. Evgeni Nabokov stopped 26 shots in the triumph.

"We got a couple (goals) from defensemen, which I don't want to say is odd, but to have the only two that mattered from D-man was important," Sharks coach Todd McLellan said.

Matt Beleskey had the lone score for Anaheim, which lost for just the second time in nine games. Jonas Hiller made 22 saves.

Beleskey scored 1:15 into the last period on a blast from the left circle, and the Ducks gained a power play following Thornton's tripping penalty with 3:10 remaining. They then pulled Hiller for the extra attacker, but couldn't net the equalizer.

Nabokov stopped a one-timer from the slot from Ryan Whitney in the final minute and Marleau hit the empty net with 5.5 seconds left.

Vlasic scored 2:47 into the second period on the power play on a snap shot from the right circle. It was his first goal since November 1.

"The difference was we made a mistake and they scored a power play goal," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "We had all but eight seconds of it killed and we reacted poorly on the one draw by them."

Blake netted his fourth of the season at 16:34 of the second. That was the 237th of his career, tied with Sharks general manager Doug Wilson for 10th- most all-time by a defenseman.
