NHL Game Summary - Philadelphia at Toronto

(Thursday, January 14th)

Final Score: Toronto 4, Philadelphia 0

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Vesa Toskala stopped all 38 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season, as Toronto upended Philadelphia, 4-0, at Air Canada Center.

After the first period, where I was a little rusty, I was able to adjust," Toskala said. "I felt like I was in good shape for the rest of the night."

Tyler Bozak recorded his first career goal for the Maple Leafs, who snapped a four-game slide. Nikolai Kulemin, Luke Schenn and Lee Stempniak also tallied for Toronto, which avenged a 6-2 setback in Philly last Wednesday.

Michael Leighton made 31 saves in defeat for the Flyers, who came in having gone 8-1-1 in their last 10 games.

Toronto appeared to go ahead just 55 seconds in, when Jay Rosehill knocked a loose puck home from a goalmouth scramble, but a review determined he pushed the puck into the net with his glove.

Bozak eventually produced the game's first goal when he beat Leighton high to the glove side at 8:44 of the second period.

Kulemin finished off a 2-on-1 with a wrister from a Phil Kessel dish for a 2-0 Leafs edge with 40.5 seconds left in the period.

Schenn ripped a shot under the crossbar at the 5:54 mark of the third period and Stempniak also rocketed one upstairs to cap the scoring with 1:48 remaining.

"Too many turnovers by us. That contributed to all four of their goals," said Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger. "We didn't allow them to have to work for it the whole night."
