NHL Game Summary - St. Louis at Atlanta

(Sunday, November 8th)

Final Score: Atlanta 3, St. Louis 2 (SO)

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Rich Peverley notched the winner in the shootout and Slava Kozlov added insurance as Atlanta rallied from a two-goal deficit to down St. Louis, 3-2, at Philips Arena.

Peverley began the shootout with a successful wrister then Andy McDonald of the Blues failed in his chance. Kozlov added another score before Brad Boyes' had the puck poke-checked away by Johan Hedberg.

Boyes argued that his rebound, which was lifted into the net, counted as a shot but the closest official immediately waved off the goal.

Tobias Enstrom and Ron Hainsey tallied in regulation for the Thrashers, who snapped a two-game slide. Hedberg made 30 saves.

"I just felt like this was the best overall game we've played recently," said Thrashers head coach John Anderson. "It follows when you do the right things, good things happen."

McDonald and David Perron scored for the Blues, who have dropped a season-high five straight games. Ty Conklin took the loss despite stopping 38 shots.

The Blues got on the board at 6:55 of the second period. The goal was set up when Perron was dragged down on a partial break and collided with Hedberg, leaving McDonald an open net with which to deposit a backhander.

St. Louis took a 2-0 advantage while on the power play 7:08 into the third as Perron's deflection of Eric Brewer's shot from the slot slipped between Hedberg's pads.

Colby Armstrong fed Enstrom for a one-timer which made it a one-goal game with 7:01 left in regulation, and a fluke shot by Hainsey in the neutral zone got past Conklin to tie the contest with 3:31 to play.

Conklin stopped Maxim Afinogenov's breakaway 30 seconds later and neither team came up with the winner in overtime.

"We didn't want to play a shut-down game in the third," said Blues head coach Andy Murray. "We wanted to play attack hockey, and we need to continue to play attack hockey and learn how not to sit on a lead. We made mistakes, they scored."
