St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - Eric Belanger netted a pair of goals in
Minnesota's 4-1 decision over Calgary at Xcel Energy Center.
Kyle Brodziak added a goal and one assist for the Wild, who snapped a four-
Niklas Backstrom got the win by making 25 saves.
Olli Jokinen picked up the only score for the Flames, whose five-game win
streak ground to a halt.
Miikka Kiprusoff allowed all four goals on 35 shots in defeat.
After failing to extend their lead with a power play midway through the third
period, the Wild eventually took a 4-1 lead with 8:21 left in regulation when
Cal Clutterbuck tapped in a feed from Brodziak at the left post.
Minnesota's defense and Backstrom held the Flames at bay for the remainder of
"System-wise, I thought our guys played it pretty close to a tee and were able
to shut them down and limit their players," said Wild coach Todd Richards.
Jokinen opened the scoring for Calgary just 1:34 into the contest, and
Belanger countered for Minnesota on a power play at 5:47.
The Wild increased their lead to 3-1 by the second intermission on tallies
from Brodziak at 4:38 and Belanger at 11:23.
After dropping 10 of the previous 11 meetings, Minnesota has won three in a
row over Calgary, including both matchups this season...Marek Zidlicky and
Nick Schultz each recorded a pair of assists for the Wild...The Flames have
scored only 22 goals in their last 10 games.
