NHL Game Summary - Calgary at Minnesota

(Wednesday, January 6th)

Final Score: Minnesota 4, Calgary 1

St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - Eric Belanger netted a pair of goals in Minnesota's 4-1 decision over Calgary at Xcel Energy Center.

Kyle Brodziak added a goal and one assist for the Wild, who snapped a four- game slide.

Niklas Backstrom got the win by making 25 saves.

Olli Jokinen picked up the only score for the Flames, whose five-game win streak ground to a halt.

Miikka Kiprusoff allowed all four goals on 35 shots in defeat.

After failing to extend their lead with a power play midway through the third period, the Wild eventually took a 4-1 lead with 8:21 left in regulation when Cal Clutterbuck tapped in a feed from Brodziak at the left post.

Minnesota's defense and Backstrom held the Flames at bay for the remainder of the game.

"System-wise, I thought our guys played it pretty close to a tee and were able to shut them down and limit their players," said Wild coach Todd Richards.

Jokinen opened the scoring for Calgary just 1:34 into the contest, and Belanger countered for Minnesota on a power play at 5:47.

The Wild increased their lead to 3-1 by the second intermission on tallies from Brodziak at 4:38 and Belanger at 11:23.
