San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Patrick Marleau scored twice as San Jose
pummeled Anaheim, 5-2, at HP Pavilion.
Dany Heatley notched a goal and two assists and Joe Thornton padded his NHL
points and assists lead with three helpers as the Sharks registered a fourth
Evgeni Nabokov made 30 saves for the Sharks, who knocked off the Ducks on
December 17 to begin their current streak. Ryane Clowe and Jamie McGinn added
goals in the win.
San Jose has outscored its divisional counterparts 16-6 in winning all four
matchups so far this year.
"We're going to the net, we're getting open and we're getting shots towards
the net," Thornton said. "That's what we want to do right now."
Marleau, meanwhile, scored the 300th and 301st goals of his career while
reaching the 25-goal plateau for the seventh time in 12 seasons.
Bobby Ryan got his 17th goal of the season and Kyle Chipchura his second for
the Ducks, who were blanked by Phoenix on Wednesday. Jean-Sebastien Giguere
gave up all five goals on 25 shots.
A fluttering shot attempt by Heatley early on was cleaned up at the left post
by Marleau to open the scoring, and a power-play marker by Marleau later in
the period allowed for a 2-0 edge after 20 minutes.
Sloppy play in the neutral zone by the Ducks led to a 3-0 deficit as Heatley
released a sharp wrister to beat Giguere off a turnover 7:41 into the second.
Clowe scored on the power play at the 13-minute mark for a 4-0 game and McGinn
turned another Ducks turnover into a commanding 5-0 lead 15 seconds later.
Chipchura took advantage of a Sharks giveaway late in the frame to get Anaheim
on the board and Ryan found the back of the net less than five minutes into
the third for a 5-2 affair.
That's as close as Anaheim would get, though, as it wrapped up a three-game
road trip at 1-2-1.
Ducks forward Ryan Getzlaf suffered a cut to his leg that required stitches
during the second period. He did not come back out for the third, although,
the injury is not considered serious...The Sharks last won four straight
during a season-best six-game winning streak from October 24-November
4...Thornton leads the NHL with 44 assists and 54 points, notching 11 helpers
over his last seven games and 26 in his last 17 contests...The Sharks opened a
three-game homestand Saturday and are 10-2-5 as the host this year...Anaheim
will host Minnesota Tuesday while San Jose welcomes Phoenix to town on Monday.
