NHL Game Summary - Nashville at Dallas

(Wednesday, October 14th)

Final Score: Dallas 6, Nashville 0

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Marty Turco stopped 29 shots for his 37th career shutout and Dallas scored on its first three shots of the game, on the way to a 6-0 rout of the Nashville Predators.

Brenden Morrow and Loui Eriksson each scored twice and James Neal tallied three assists for the Stars, who bounced back from a 4-3 shootout loss at Vancouver on Sunday. Brad Richards also had a three-point night with a goal and a pair of assists. Eriksson added an assist, while Jamie Benn and Mike Ribeiro each had a pair of helpers.

"We really wanted to establish our presence here at home," said Stars coach Marc Crawford said. "I thought our guys were spot-on early in the game, especially our top two lines. I thought they really established their dominance."

Dan Ellis was lifted after giving up three goals and Pekka Rinne stopped 20 shots for the Predators, who lost their third straight contest.

Morrow and Richards scored 40 seconds apart early in the opening period. Morrow tallied on a one-timer from the left circle at 3:17, and Richards made it 2-0 after taking a pass in front from Eriksson.

"If you get through the first period 2-0 you're in the game," said Nashville coach Barry Trotz. "If you look at some of the saves Turco had to make, I thought he had to make a lot of tougher saves than our goaltenders tonight unfortunately. When you're not scoring goals and they seem to be finding the back of the net, it can play with your confidence."

Eriksson's tip-in at 6:31 moved the hosts to a three-goal lead and forced Ellis from the net in favor of Rinne.

The goaltender change didn't help the Predators as Morrow scored on the power play at the 8:48 mark. Dallas took advantage of a Dan Hamhuis tripping penalty with Morrow scoring from the right side of the net after a pass from Richards on the other side of the ice.

Morrow nearly had the hat trick in the first minute of the second period, but a high-sticking penalty on Nashville's Kevin Klein stopped play prior to the score. It didn't matter though as Dallas went ahead 5-0 by converting on a two-man advantage. Martin Erat was already in the penalty box for an interference infraction in the closing second of the first period, and Eriksson roofed the puck from the right side of the net over Rinne.

Turco was spectacular in keeping his first shutout of the season intact in the final period. He made a sprawling save on Hamhuis, and moments later was on his back to deny David Legwand with nearly eight minutes remaining.

Toby Petersen scored on a deflection of a Karlis Skrastins shot with 2:13 left in the game.
