NHL Game Summary - Columbus at Nashville

(Thursday, December 10th)

Final Score: Nashville 4, Columbus 3 (SO)

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Steve Sullivan scored the game-winner in the fifth-round of the shootout to help Nashville take a 4-3 win over Columbus at Sommet Center.

In the fifth round, Antoine Vermette's wrister was stopped on a body save by Pekka Rinne. Sullivan then skated in and went backhand to forehand and slid the puck past the outstretched left pad of Mathieu Garon for the win.

Martin Erat, Jason Arnott and Dave Scatchard each had a goal for the Predators, who have won three of their last four. Rinne stopped 28 shots in the win.

Kris Russell and Rick Nash each had a goal and an assist while Raffi Torres also lit the lamp for the Blue Jackets, who have dropped four of five. Garon made 36 stops in the loss.

Trailing by a goal in the third, the Blue Jackets tied the game just 4:18 in. Kristian Huselius fired a lead pass to Nash, who caught up to the puck in the Nashville end and buried a wrister into the left corner of the net for his 16th goal of the season.

The game stayed tied through the remainder of regulation and overtime to force a shootout.

Nashville got the only goal of the first period when Kevin Klein fired a slap pass from the left point to the low slot where Scatchard redirected it past Garon at the 11:03 mark.

Just 2:58 into the second, Columbus tied the game. Nash skated the puck behind the net from the right side and momentarily lost it, but found it again and backhanded a pass out front where Russell one-timed it home.

Erat gave Nashville the lead back at the 4:44 mark of the middle stanza as his backhander fooled Garon for his 10th goal of the season.

However, the Blue Jackets used the power play to tie the game as Torres banked a shot from behind the left side of the net off the pad of Rinne.

"They're a good team. They have a lot of fire power over there. I think once it got tied up, things opened up for us," the Predators' Ryan Suter said.

The Predators, though, took a 3-2 lead into the final stanza on Arnott's 11th goal of the season with just 28 seconds left in the middle frame.
