NHL Game Summary - Tampa Bay at New Jersey

(Friday, December 4th)

Final Score: New Jersey 3, Tampa Bay 2

Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Jamie Langenbrunner's goal with 38.1 seconds left in regulation lifted New Jersey over Tampa Bay, 3-2, at Prudential Center.

Brian Rolston and Niclas Bergfors also scored for the Devils, who have won four of five. Martin Brodeur made 22 stops for the win.

"We made it a little more interesting than we would have liked. We stuck with it and we came out on top," said Devils defenseman Andy Greene.

Vincent Lecavalier and Steve Downie tallied for the Lightning, who have lost four in a row and five of six. Antero Niittymaki made only 16 saves in the setback.

Over a minute after Matt Halischuk narrowly missed putting the Devils ahead, Greene fired a shot from the right point near the boards which somehow missed a host of bodies and slipped past Niittymaki. The puck did manage to nick Langenbrunner at some point on the way through for the winning score.

"Everybody knows how well the defensemen can shoot the puck, and on a play like that, everyone tries to take their place, take a man, but that happens. What can you do," said a dejected Niittymaki.

Following a scoreless first period, Lecavalier notched his sixth goal of the year 1:26 into the second to put the Bolts ahead.

After sleepwalking through much of the first 40 minutes, New Jersey forged ahead early in the third on power-play goals by Rolston at 1:15 and Bergfors at 5:14

Downie then tied the game with three minutes left in regulation on a Tampa man advantage thanks to quick passing between Steven Stamkos and Ryan Malone.

Game Notes

Brodeur notched his 16th win of the season...The Devils have won 10 in a row over the Lightning, dating back to October, 2007.
