Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - Cam Ward made 19 stops to record his third
shutout of the season as Carolina topped Atlanta, 2-0, at RBC Center.
Matt Cullen and Ray Whitney each scored once for the Hurricanes, who have won
four of their last five games.
Kari Lehtonen was strong in defeat, making 38 saves for the Thrashers, who
have lost four games in a row.
Carolina picked up a pair of goals in the first period, on a short-handed
tally by Cullen at 7:41 and an even-strength score by Whitney at 18:29. The
Hurricanes blitzed the Thrashers by a 21-4 margin in shots as well.
Ward made that two-goal edge stand up with 11 stops in the second period and
four in a defensively-oriented final 20 minutes.
Carolina has won eight of the last 10 meetings, and three of five this
season...Ward improved to 20-15-3 on the season and posted his ninth career
whitewash...Atlanta suffered its second scoreless game in its last three
contests, having lost 2-0 at Dallas on Tuesday.
