NHL Game Summary - Chicago at Anaheim

(Friday, November 28th)

Final Score: Anaheim 1, Chicago 0

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Ryan Getzlaf scored the lone goal of the contest and Jonas Hiller recorded his second career shutout as the Anaheim Ducks edged the Chicago Blackhawks, 1-0, at the Honda Center.

Hiller, filling in for Ducks starting netminder Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who returned to his hometown of Montreal for family reasons, turned aside 26 shots.

"We played pretty well defensively," Hiller said. "They didn't have too many opportunities. They had some on the powerplay, but we did well on the penalty kill. If you play defense first you always have chance to win."

Corey Perry and Bobby Ryan picked up assists on Getzlaf's ninth goal of the season. Anaheim has won three straight after dropping five of its previous six contests.

Cristobal Huet turned in a solid performance between the pipes for Chicago, stopping 20-of-21 shots in the club's second straight loss.

With the Ducks clinging to a 1-0 lead after two periods, the hosts had a chance to get an insurance goal 8:30 into the third, but Huet stopped a Teemu Selanne slap shot off a two-on-one break.

A swarming Anaheim defense continued to limit the Blackhawks chances in the final period and with just over a minute to play, Chicago pulled Huet in favor of the extra attacker. However, the visitors were unable to sustain any offensive pressure and the Ducks held on for the 1-0 win.

"It was a weird game, not much going on and then they got that goal midway through the second and I think we started pressing a little bit," Blackhawks right winger Patrick Kane said. "When we start pressing the chances don't come your way either."

After a scoreless first period, Anaheim was able to manufacture a goal with 4:41 remaining in the second.

Ryan carried the puck down the left wing boards and into the Ducks zone, then got it to Perry in the corner. Perry centered to Getzlaf standing all alone in front and the veteran's backhander beat Huet to the stick side, giving the hosts the edge. The slim lead would carry into the second intermission.

Hiller was spectacular between the pipes for Anaheim in the middle frame, turning aside all 15 shots faced.
