NHL Game Summary - Dallas at Phoenix

(Monday, March 30th)

Final Score: Phoenix 6, Dallas 5 (OT)

Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Petr Prucha scored 53 seconds into overtime on the power play as Phoenix beat Dallas, 6-5, sending the Stars to a devastating loss and likely ending any hopes they had of making the playoffs.

Scottie Upshall and Enver Lisin each scored twice for the Coyotes, who won for just the fifth time in 16 games, but with 71 points and only six games remaining, they're teetering on elimination from postseason contention. Prucha, Matthew Lombardi and Viktor Tikhonov each had two assists in the win, while Ilya Brzygalov made 18 saves.

"It's our building, we're supposed to own this ice and make it hard for teams coming in," said Upshall. "A team like Dallas had been struggling lately."

Brendan Morrison had a goal and an assist, while Mike Ribeiro chipped in three helpers for the Stars, who lost their season-high seventh straight game. Dallas, which has six games left in the regular season, has 75 points. That is eight behind eighth-seeded St. Louis for the final postseason slot in the Western Conference. Tobias Stephan made 27 saves in defeat.

The Stars trailed 5-3 in the third, but Chris Conner scored on a breakaway with 5:26 left in regulation and Darryl Sydor tied the game with 57.4 seconds left. Sydor's shot from the right circle hit the stick of a Phoenix player and the puck trickled by Bryzgalov, who was screened in front by Loui Eriksson.

The Coyotes got a power play in overtime when Andrew Hutchinson tripped Upshall. Lisin passed the puck to Shane Doan at the left side of the net, and another pass was on the tape to Prucha in front for the successful deflection and game-winner.

"You can't take penalties. Those are things you do to shoot yourself in the foot," said Stars coach Dave Tippett. "We've got enough holes in our feet already."

Morrison scored 2:04 into the contest by depositing a loose puck from the right side of the net high past Bryzgalov, but Upshall tied the score less than six minutes later on the power play from in front off a pass from Lombardi.

Lisin's first goal of the night came with 7:44 remaining in the first as the Coyotes took advantage of a Dallas turnover. Lisin picked up the disc near the Stars blue line and raced in on Stephan before nudging it into the net.

Hutchinson tied the game at 2-2, 1:16 into the second on a rising shot from the slot, but Doan gave the Coyotes the lead 31 seconds later when his slot shot deflected past Stephan.

Lisin extended the margin to 4-2 at the 4:32 mark. Tikhonov passed the puck from behind the net on the right side and Lisin was in front for his 12th goal of the season.

Eriksson made it a one-goal difference again with 4:49 left in the middle period on a power play tally, but Upshall extended the margin to 5-3 at 11:58 of the third by beating Stephan with a wrist shot from the left circle.
