Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Marian Hossa, Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk
and Dan Cleary each registered a goal and an assist, as the Detroit Red Wings
trounced the Dallas Stars, 6-1, at Joe Louis Arena.
Niklas Kronwall recorded three assists and Chris Osgood made 22 saves for the
Red Wings, who have won five in a row.
Detroit also picked up its sixth straight victory on home ice.
Loui Eriksson netted his 21st goal of the season for the Stars, who have lost
three of five. Marty Turco was pulled after yielding four goals on 18 shots
through the first 40 minutes. Tobias Stephan stopped 13 shots the rest of the
Hossa opened the scoring 4:07 into the contest with his team-leading 19th goal
of the season, and Cleary lit the lamp at 11:28 of the first period for a 2-0
Detroit lead. Turco stopped Kronwall's howitzer from the point, but Cleary was
on the doorstep and tucked in the rebound.
The Red Wings netted two more goals in the middle stanza.
Tomas Kopecky let go a slap shot that Turco kicked out with the left pad.
However, the gritty Kirk Maltby followed up the play and roofed the rebound
past the sprawled netminder with 7:33 remaining. Tomas Holmstrom added a
power-play marker with 2:56 left in the frame, then Eriksson put Dallas on the
board 38 seconds into the third period.
Datsyuk's power-play tally restored a four-goal edge at 5:07, and Zetterberg
capped the scoring with 8:58 left in the game.
Detroit, which entered play boasting the top-ranked power-play unit, finished
2-for-9 on the man advantage. The Stars were 0-for-3...Detroit is 15-3-2 as
the host this year...Dallas is just 8-11-2 on the road.
