Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Colby Armstrong netted a pair of goals and
Ondrej Pavelec made 28 saves to help the Atlanta Thrashers top the Ottawa
Vyacheslav Kozlov scored on the power play as Atlanta snapped a three-game
skid. Todd White added an empty-netter for the victors.
Martin Gerber, coming off a shutout, was beaten three times on 24 shots, and
Chris Kelly registered the only Senators goal in the club's fourth loss in
Kozlov redirected Ron Hainsey's shot from the point to score the game's first
goal with 9:10 remaining in the first.
After a scoreless second period, Armstrong found the back of the net twice in
the first 2:41 of the final stanza. His first came on a wrap-around with a man
advantage at the 2:10 mark, and seconds later Armstrong was left wide open
behind Gerber for an easy tap-in and a 3-0 lead.
Kelly spoiled Pavelec's shutout bid with 1:19 remaining on his third goal of
the season, but White sealed the win on his empty-netter with 34 ticks left.
Ottawa had won five of its previous six home tests. The Senators had also won
four of the previous five meetings between the clubs and four straight in the
series at Scotiabank Place...Ottawa went scoreless in four power-play tries,
while Atlanta was 3-for-6 with the extra skater.
