NHL Game Summary - Phoenix at Calgary

(Tuesday, November 4th)

Final Score: Phoenix 4, Calgary 2

Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Ilya Bryzgalov made 27 saves and Ed Jovanovski's first goal of the season proved to be the game-winner in Phoenix's 4-2 victory over Calgary.

Shane Doan scored and recorded an assist, while Steven Reinprecht and Derek Morris added a goal apiece for the Coyotes, who had lost five of their previous seven games.

Miikka Kiprusoff was off his game, stopping 18-of-22 shots for the Flames, who have dropped back-to-back contests on the heels of a six-game winning streak. Dustin Boyd and Daymond Langkow provided the scoring in the loss.

Nearly 12 minutes into the second period, Doan found Jovanovski for a one- timer from the left point, and the puck hit off the inside of Kiprusoff's left pad and trickled past the goal line for the go-ahead power-play goal.

The Coyotes added to the 3-2 lead as Kevin Porter brought the puck into the offensive zone off the right boards and fed a cross-ice pass to Reinprecht, who went high with a backhand into the back of the net.

Bryzgalov held strong and denied all 15 shots against in the third period to seal the win.

"Every day is a new experience for our group," Coyotes head coach Wayne Gretzky said. "We're young and we plan on working hard and teaching and growing together and getting better every day. Our guys played hard. It was a nice win."

Langkow's wrister over Bryzgalov's left shoulder 3:20 into the opening period gave the Flames their first and only lead of the game.

While shorthanded, Phoenix tied it on a wrister by Morris midway through the first, and took a short-lived lead on Doan's backhanded stuff with 1:36 remaining in the frame.

"[Our] power play was a little bit careless and that definitely contributed to the momentum [Phoenix] picked up," Flames head coach Mike Keenan said. "We had the lead then gave it up on a short-handed goal and we really didn't recover from that."

Just 80 seconds later, however, Calgary took advantage of a turnover in the Coyotes' zone and Boyd lit the lamp to tie the game.
