NHL Game Summary - Phoenix at Chicago

(Sunday, December 7th)

Final Score: Chicago 7, Phoenix 1

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Andrew Ladd had a goal and three assists as the Chicago Blackhawks pasted the Phoenix Coyotes, 7-1, at the United Center.

Ben Eager scored twice while Jonathan Toews and Dave Bolland each added a goal and an assist for the Blackhawks, who have won two of their last three games. Cristobal Huet stopped 20 shots in the win.

"We came out with good intentions," said Ladd. "Everything went right tonight. It was one of those nights when everything went well. We are in a tough conference. We have to forget about tonight and prepare for our next game."

Enver Lisin scored the lone goal while Ilya Bryzgalov was shelled for seven goals on 28 shots for the Coyotes, who have dropped two straight.

"You're embarrassed as a player," said Phoenix forward Shane Doan. "It's only one game so you have to forget about it and prepare for the next one. They gave it to us every which way and it's embarrassing. We're a little like Jekyll and Hyde right now and we have to be better than that."

Chicago scored twice in a 29-second span in the first period to take control of the game.

On the first goal, Ladd hit Bolland with a lead pass and from the right circle Bolland blew a shot past Bryzgalov with 8:22 left in the first.

Moments later, Martin Havlat and Toews worked a give-and-go off of a turnover in the Phoenix end with Toews snapping a shot into the net from the right circle for a 2-0 lead.

The Blackhawks, though, weren't done scoring in the first period as the team tacked on two more goals for a 4-0 advantage after 20 minutes.

Ladd threw a shot on net that was tipped off the right post by Bolland, but Dustin Byfuglien was right there to smack in the rebound with 2:46 left in the frame.

Then on the power play, the Blackhawks used a tic-tac-toe play with Patrick Sharp dunking the puck into the net from the left side with just 1:28 remaining in the opening period.

Chicago continued to pour it on in the second period as the team scored three more times in the frame.

The first goal came at the 5:05 mark as Craig Adams slapped a shot from the top of the right circle and the rebound kicked out to the left side where Eager banged it home.

Ladd scored at the 7:05 mark of the frame and Eager tallied his second goal of the game just 55 seconds later.

Phoenix got on the board in the final minute of the second period on Lisin's fifth marker of the season.

Neither team scored in the final frame as Chicago held on for the easy win.
