Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Tuomo Ruutu finished with two goals and an
assist, as the Carolina Hurricanes blasted the Phoenix Coyotes, 7-2.
Sergei Samsonov added a goal and three assists for Carolina, which has won two
in a row and four of five. Chad LaRose, Patrick Eaves, Matt Cullen and Eric
Staal all scored a goal apiece for the Hurricanes, who notched a season-high
in goals scored.
Cam Ward stopped 30-of-32 shots in the Carolina win.
"Great power play and great penalty killing," said Ruutu. "You score seven
goals on the road...it doesn't happen every day."
Ilya Bryzgalov got the start in net for Phoenix, but was pulled after giving
up four goals on 28 shots through two periods. He was replaced by Mikael
Tellqvist, who allowed three goals on 13 shots in the third, as the Coyotes
tumbled to their sixth consecutive loss.
Shane Doan and Steven Goertzen scored the goals for Phoenix, which has allowed
seven goals on three occasions this season.

4:50 remaining and Ruutu lit the lamp with under a minute to go to make it a
4-2 contest heading into the third.
The Hurricanes continued to pile on the goals in the final frame, as Eaves got
his second marker of the season just 3:42 in. At the 9:50 mark, Samsonov
scored and LaRose netted a shorthanded marker with 2:23 remaining to complete
Each team scored once in the first period -- Ruutu gave Carolina a 1-0 lead on
the power play just 1:04 into the contest, though Goertzen got his first NHL
goal 5 1/2 minutes later.
Staal put Carolina back on top 2:03 into the second, when he skated in from
the right circle and put a shot past Bryzgalov on a man advantage. But Doan
knotted the score at two at 9:42 with his own power-play goal.
Phoenix also gave up seven goals in a 7-1 loss to Chicago on December 7 and on
January 27, in a 7-3 loss to Anaheim...Carolina was 4-for-5 on power play
chances, while Phoenix went 1-for-5...On Saturday, the Carolina Hurricanes
dealt forward Wade Brookbank, defenseman Josef Melichar and a fourth-round
pick in 2009 to the Tampa Bay Lightning for forward Jussi Jokinen. Jokinen
made his Carolina debut and had an assist.
