Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Buffalo Sabres defenseman Teppo Numminen is out indefinitely after having surgery Sunday to repair a small fracture of the jaw, according to the Buffalo News.
The 40-year-old Numminen sustained the injury early in the second period of Saturday's 3-1 win over the Hurricanes when a shot by Carolina defenseman Tim Gleason struck him in the face. Numminen returned to the bench and finished the remainder of the frame, but did not play in the third.
The Finnish rearguard has two goals and 12 assists in 45 games this season after missing all but the final game of the 2007-08 campaign following heart surgery.
