Avs F O'Reilly named Lady Byng honoree

Las Vegas, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Colorado Avalanche forward Ryan O'Reilly was named the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy winner as the player who exhibits sportsmanship, gentlemanly play and excellence on the ice.

O'Reilly, 23, set career highs in goals (28) and points (64) and led the NHL with 83 takeaways in 80 games. He was whistled for only one minor penalty -- he played the puck with a broken stick -- and became only the second player ever to receive two or fewer penalty minutes over at least 80 games, joining Butch Goring (1977-78).

The Ontario native is the first member of the Avalanche to win the award since Joe Sakic in 2001.

O'Reilly bested San Jose Sharks veteran forward Patrick Marleau along with three-time recipient and 2013 winner Martin St. Louis -- who split the season between Tampa Bay and the New York Rangers.
