Steelers sign Ernster, release Berger
Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Steelers signed punter Paul Ernster and released punter Mitch Berger on Wednesday.
Ernster had been claimed by the Steelers off waivers in late July, but the club released him on August 30.
The Northern Arizona product has played in a total of 19 NFL games over his three-year NFL career: one game with the Broncos in 2005, a full 16-game slate with Denver in 2006, then one game each with the Broncos and Browns in 2007.
To make room on the roster, the Steelers released veteran punter Mitch Berger. The 13-year pro out of Colorado averaged 41.9 yards per punt through eight games this season.
