NBA Preview from The Sports Network
Saturday, February 23rd (All times eastern)
Los Angeles Lakers (37-17) at Los Angeles Clippers (19-33), 10:30 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Clippers will act as the host tonight, as they renew their rivalry with the red-hot Lakers at the Staples Center.
This is the second meeting of the campaign between the clubs. On December 16th, superstar Kobe Bryant finished with 32 points and eight rebounds as the host Lakers downed the Clippers by a 113-92 score.
The Lakers have lost two of three and three of their last five as the visitor in this series.
The Lakers, who are 19-10 on the road this season, have won six in a row and will play the middle contest of a three-game road trip on Saturday. Bryant got the best of his former teammate on Wednesday, scoring 41 points to spoil Shaquille O'Neal's debut with the Suns in a 130-124 victory over Phoenix at US Airways Center.
Lamar Odom tallied 22 points and 11 rebounds in the win for the Lakers, while Sasha Vujacic collected 15 points. Bryant, who is fighting off a torn ligament on the small finger of his right hand, was 16-of-25 from the field and 8-of-10 at the free throw line.
The Clippers will resume a six-game homestand on Saturday and are 2-1 so far on the stand. They will also host Boston and Portland, and own an 11-16 mark at home in 2007-08.
Clippers veteran guard Sam Cassell is questionable for Saturday's game against the Lakers with a wrist problem.
In Friday's 114-104 victory over the Utah Jazz, Al Thornton scored 27 points off the bench and Corey Maggette added 27 points for the Clippers, who have won back-to-back games for the first since the team went 4-0 to start the 2007-08 season.
