The defending division-champion Jazz are currently in first place in the Northwest at one game ahead of the Nuggets, and will try to extend their winning streak to a season-best 10 games this evening. Deron Williams scored a game-high 29 points and dished out 11 assists to lead the Jazz to their ninth straight victory -- a 110-88 triumph over the New Orleans Hornets on Monday at EnergySolutions Arena.
Kyle Korver scored 20 points off the bench, including a 6-of-8 clip from beyond the arc for the Jazz, who have won 11 in a row at home. Utah made a team-record 14 three-pointers (14-of-22) in the win.
Ronnie Brewer ended with 11 points for the Jazz, who are on their longest overall winning streak since the 1999-00 season when they also won nine in a row. All-Star Carlos Boozer added 19 points and 17 rebounds, while Mehmet Okur collected 14 points in the victory.
Utah is 10-15 on the road this season. The Jazz will visit the Sacramento Kings on Friday at ARCO Arena.
Denver, meanwhile, has won three in a row and opens a short two-game homestand against the Jazz. On Monday, Allen Iverson's jumper in the final second of overtime lifted the Nuggets to a 105-103 win over the Portland Trail Blazers at the Rose Garden.
Carmelo Anthony finished with 28 points and 15 rebounds for Denver, which has won five of its last seven games overall. Iverson finished with 25 points, six rebounds and eight assists for the Nuggets, who beat the Trail Blazers for the 12th time in the last 15 meetings.
The Nuggets are an impressive 20-5 at home this season. They will host the Washington Wizards on Friday at the Pepsi Center.
This is the second meeting of the campaign between the clubs. On January 17th, Linas Kleiza scored a career-high 41 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Nuggets knocked off the Jazz, 120-109, at the Pepsi Center.
Utah will host the Nuggets on March 8th and April 12th at EnergySolutions Arena.
