New Jersey Nets (39-41) at New York Knicks (32-48), 7:30 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The New Jersey Nets shoot for their third straight win this evening when they take on the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
New Jersey is headed to the playoffs and sits seventh overall in the Eastern Conference standings, just a game behind Washington for the sixth seed. The Nets have won two in a row and four of five, including Sunday's 111-107 victory over Indiana in the opener of short a two-game road trip at Conseco Fieldhouse.
Vince Carter scored 35 points and Bostjan Nachbar had 25 off the bench, as New Jersey improved to 16-24 as the visitor this season. Richard Jefferson posted 18 points and Jason Kidd added 12 with 10 assists for the Nets, who remain one game ahead of Orlando for the No. 7 spot. The Magic clinched the final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference with a win over Boston on Sunday night.
The Nets will close out the 2006-07 regular-season schedule on Wednesday versus Chicago at Continental Airlines Arena.
New York is just trying to close out the season on a good note after losing the last four games. In Sunday's 107-105 loss to the Toronto Raptors in the finale of a three-game road trip at the Air Canada Centre, Eddy Curry had 30 points and Steve Francis added 28 for the Knicks, who have dropped 12 of their last 14 games.
The Knicks, who are 19-21 at home this season, will wrap up the 2006-07 campaign on Wednesday at Charlotte Bobcats Arena.
Monday's showdown between Atlantic Division rivals is the fourth and final meeting of the season. New Jersey is 3-0 in the series and has won nine of 10 and 10 of the last 12 encounters with the Knicks.
The Nets have also won their last five trips to the Big Apple.
