NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Sunday, December 17th (All times eastern)

Washington Wizards (11-11) at Los Angeles Lakers (16-7), 9:30 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Washington Wizards aim for their third straight win tonight when they pay a visit to the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center.

Washington made it two in a row with Friday's 106-95 victory over the Miami Heat at the Verizon Center. Caron Butler poured in a game-high 30 points and Gilbert Arenas scored 27 points to lead Washington.

Butler, who shot 12-of-19 from the floor, also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out four assists. Arenas finished 10-of-23 and pulled down six boards and had six assists for Washington, which has won five of six.

Antawn Jamison netted 22 points with 10 rebounds and five blocks for the Wizards, who snapped a 16-game losing streak against Miami that dates back to April 11, 2003.

Washington will visit the Lakers, Denver, Sacramento and Phoenix on its four- game road trip, and is just 2-8 away from the Verizon Center this season.

The Lakers, meanwhile, have won four of their last five games, including Friday's 112-101 double-overtime win against the Houston Rockets at the Staples Center.

Kobe Bryant scorched the Rockets for 53 points, as the Lakers rallied from a 21-point deficit to come out on top. Bryant shot just 17-of-38 from the field, but also had 10 rebounds and eight assists. LA is a game behind Phoenix in the Pacific Division standings.

Smush Parker added 17 points for the Lakers, who have won four of their last five games and will close out a two-game homestand against Washington. Los Angeles is 13-3 as the host this season and will open a six-game road trip after Sunday's tilt versus the Wizards.

Both teams split a pair of meetings last season, but the Wizards have won three of the last four matchups.

Washington has lost 12 of its last 13 games at the Lakers.
