NBA Preview from The Sports Network
Sunday, November 12th (All times eastern)
Memphis Grizzlies (1-4) at Los Angeles Lakers (4-3), 9 p.m.
(Sports Network) - Two teams looking to stop losing streaks will face one another tonight at the Staples Center, where the Los Angeles Lakers entertain the struggling Memphis Grizzlies.
The Lakers have dropped two straight following a 4-1 start to the season. On Friday, Tayshaun Prince scored 18 of his career-high tying 31 points in the third quarter as Detroit posted a 97-83 win over LA at the Staples Center.
Kobe Bryant had just two points through the first three quarters before netting another 17 in the fourth for the Lakers, who had won three straight at home to begin the year. Lamar Odom added 16 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in the loss.
The game was the opener of a five-game homestand for Los Angeles.
Memphis, meanwhile, was dealt its third consecutive loss Saturday, when the club dropped a 96-87 decision at Phoenix.
Chucky Atkins came off the bench and scored 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting to lead the Grizzlies, who fell to 1-4 on the young season. Rudy Gay had 14 points and nine rebounds, while Hakim Warrick scored 12 points in the loss.
Memphis, which began a three-game road trip, has dropped both of its road outings so far in 2006-07.
The Grizzlies have enjoyed significant success against Los Angeles in recent years, however. Memphis won three of the four meetings between the clubs last season and are 6-1 against the Lakers since the start of the 2004-05 campaign.
Memphis had lost 18 straight to LA as the road team before winning the last three matchups between the teams at the Staples Center.
