NBA Preview from The Sports Network

Friday, February 24th (All times eastern)

Denver Nuggets (29-26) at Minnesota Timberwolves (23-30), 8 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Denver Nuggets try for their second straight win this evening when they visit the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Target Center.

Denver was one of the few teams active at Thursday's trade deadline, as it went out and confronted their injury problems in the front court, as they acquired Seattle forward Reggie Evans and Portland swingmen Ruben Patterson and Charles Smith in exchange for sending guard Earl Watson and forward Byron Russell, along with a future second-round draft pick, to the Sonics as part of a four-team deal. Guard Voshon Lenard was also shipped to the Trail Blazers as part of the deal.

The Nuggets picked up a win in their first game out of the break on Tuesday, as Carmelo Anthony scored 24 points and Denver put together a big second half to register a 100-84 victory over Charlotte at the Pepsi Center.

Greg Buckner added a season-high 19 points before leaving the game late with a knee injury, while Marcus Camby, Andre Miller and Francisco Elson each amassed double-doubles for the Nuggets, who rallied from a 13-point deficit early in the third quarter to post their third win in four outings.

Camby finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds while Miller had 11 points and a season-best 15 assists. Elson compiled 10 points with 11 boards and rookie Linas Kleiza contributed a career-high 13 points off the bench.

Denver, which will return home for a pair of games after tonight's contest, is 11-15 away from home this season.

Minnesota, meanwhile, comes in on a sour note after dropping a 90-78 decision to the Washington Wizards on Tuesday at the MCI Center. Ricky Davis tallied 25 points for the Timberwolves, who lost for the fifth time in their past six outings.

Kevin Garnett contributed just 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Justin Reed scored 10 points off the bench in the loss.

The Timberwolves, who will close a two-game homestand versus the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday, are 15-12 in their arena this season.

Minnesota has split its two matchups with the Nuggets this season and has won three of five, 11 of 15, and 14 of the last 20 meetings. Denver has also dropped seven of eight and eight of its last 10 as the road team in this series.
